Grassroots are united on restoring direct elections for the Illinois GOP
We have not seen an effort unifying grassroots organizations in Illinois like this in decades.
The largest Republican and conservative grassroots organizations in Illinois are rallying in support of restoring direct elections for the Illinois Republican Party’s state central committee.
Even organizations which may have different issues on which they primarily focus, all agree on this one: Republican voters should be empowered in their own state party. A vote is a voice, and 99.999% of Illinois Republicans have no voice in their state party today.
This is what unity truly looks like. We have not seen an effort unifying grassroots organizations in Illinois like this in decades.
We’ve all heard a lot of talk recently about grassroots. This is real action. It’s a movement for historic positive change on behalf of every Republican voter in Illinois.
The leaders & members of the grassroots organizations and the individual activists who provide the volunteer army every election cycle to do the real work of getting out the vote understand that in order for them to be successful and continue to grow their organizations, our state party needs to start showing some respect to the men and women in the trenches who do the actual work.
It’s simply wrong to take advantage of good people for their hard work, and then turn around and tell them they don’t deserve a vote in their own state party. It’s not only ethically wrong, but any intelligent person can see that our current cockamamie system for picking the members of the state central committee has been disastrous for the Illinois Republican Party.
If our state party officials actually care about the grassroots, as they often claim they do, they would issue a public statement NOW, well in advance of the state convention coming up on May 24 & 25, which gives the grassroots assurance that they will be respected again.
No one deserves to waste their time and money attending a state convention where they’re just going to be poked in the eye yet again.
Talk is cheap. The grassroots deserve to see some action. Give the folks who go door-to-door, stuff envelopes, march in parades, man campaign booths at county fairs, make the phone calls, register new voters, and who show up every election cycle & vote in the elections the party bosses DO like, a public promise that the Resolution which will restore their vote in the state party will at least be given a fair up-or-down floor vote by ALL delegates at the upcoming state convention.
If state party pooh-bahs can’t even do that, then they should at least have the decency to stop pretending they care about the grassroots and just admit that the only people who matter to the Illinois GOP are the title-chasers.
The grassroots have made it clear – they want their vote restored – a vote which never should have been stolen from Republican voters in the first place.
Is there anyone in our state party who will say the grassroots don’t deserve it?
One final note. We don’t claim to know every good grassroots group out there working in the field. So if your organization isn’t yet represented, we urge you to sign-on in support of this long past due reform.
But you need not even be part of any other organization. We invite all serious Republicans to unify with this movement by giving us the honor of adding your name. The state party is after all supposed to be working for and listening to YOU.
The list of supporters (and opponents) and how to add your name, is HERE.
